About Indian Springs School

Established in 1952, Indian Springs School is a co-educational boarding and day school serving approximately 325 students in grades 8 through 12 from across our region, the country, and the world. The rural campus located approximately 18 miles south of Birmingham, Alabama, comprises 350 acres where nature is our both inspiration and our laboratory and includes a large spring-fed lake. Students and faculty work together in a model of shared governance, and students discover their passions by participating in academic activities, athletics, performing arts, special interest clubs, and community service.

Indian Springs faculty are dedicated to mentoring young people, and nearly all have advanced degrees, providing academic rigor and breadth in education. Our state-of-the-art classrooms, array of electives, and innovative independent study options open doors to new ideas and possibilities and provide ample opportunity for students to pursue particular areas of interest.

Indian Springs has a robust arts program with many curricular and co-curricular offerings. The world-class concert choir with over 100 students performs nationally and internationally. An outstanding drama program presents productions each year including musicals and student-directed plays. The fine arts department boasts superb programs in drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, and design.

Athletics and student wellness also play a role at Springs with teams in soccer, cross country, volleyball, swimming, tennis, softball, golf, basketball, baseball, and bowling, along with club sports such as yoga, fishing, and ultimate frisbee.

The “why” of the school is articulated in our Mission:  Guided by our motto, Learning through Living, Indian Springs School fosters a love of learning and creativity, a sense of integrity and moral courage, and an ethic of participatory citizenship with respect for individuality and independent thought. Bolstering this Mission are six Core Values:  innovating thinking, intellectual curiosity, integrity, inclusion, infinite respect, and involvement.

Indian Springs exists far beyond our campus. It is a passionate community of alumni, parents, and friends that spans the globe and generations.
